Tuzon residents confer with Ellen

Residents of Tuzon and Gborho clan in Bargblor, Grand Gedeh County, have welcomed the steady progress Liberia is witnessing under the leadership of President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.

Speaking recently during a meeting with the Liberian President, chiefs, elders and opinion leaders of the area, acknowledging the progress, cited the free movement of citizens, Government’s free primary education policy; the fight against corruption and the country’s improved international image, as achievements which cannot be ignored.

“The longer you stay, the better it will be for Liberia,”   Mr. Lawrence Quiah, a youth representative of Bargblor Town admitted, in remarks. The Chiefs and Elders also commended the Liberian leader for ensuring that political sub-divisions benefit from the country’s resources through the County Development Funds, allocated through the national budget.

They welcomed the President’s efforts at inclusion and expressed delight that qualified sons and daughters from Grand Gedeh are serving in Government. “Our children say you are holding them good” Chief elder, Brown Gaye informed the President.

A delegation from Gborho Clan and Tuzon in Grand Gedeh County, is visiting Monrovia to meet with President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf on issues affecting their areas.  The delegation informed the Liberian leader of the collapse of two major bridges in Tuzon and Bargblor Town.  The collapse of the bridges, the residents said, is impeding the movement of goods and services in the area.

They have appealed to the President to renovate the bridges to ease their plight.  Such a gesture, members of the delegation noted, would bring great relief to citizens in the area and leave a lasting impact on its residents.

According to the chiefs and elders, the area is completely cut off from the main highway in Grand Gedeh, a situation, they say, has contributed to the loss of lives. President Johnson Sirleaf, according to an Executive Mansion release, has assured the people of the area that appropriate action would be taken to construct the affected bridges in the two towns.

The President welcomed the opportunity to meet with the chiefs and elders of the area, and informed them that the repair of roads and bridges remain a priority of Government. She informed the chiefs and elders that plans are underway to host a cabinet meeting in Grand Gedeh County during the dry season, as part of efforts to take the Cabinet to the people.

The Liberian leader appealed to the people of Grand Gedeh to cooperate with Superintendent Chris Bailey to move forward the development agenda of the county. The appointment of Mr. Bailey, the President said is part of her belief that the young people of Liberia must be given an opportunity to contribute towards the development of the country.

“He’s your son; hold him. If he makes mistakes call him and talk to him or call me.  His heart is in Grand Gedeh; He wants to see development,” the Liberian leader appealed to the elders.

Friday’s discussions were attended by Representative Zoe Pennue, who spearheaded the meeting, the Senior senator of Grand Gedeh, William Sandy, and a prominent citizen of Gborho Clan, Mr. Edward Slanger, who, in remarks, expressed confidence in the leadership of the Liberian President and lauded the progress made.
