Dr. Fomunyoh to be guest at African Heritage month declaration

Dr. Christopher Fomunyoh, Cameroonian born US based expert on Good Governance and Democracy, has been invited as guest speaker at the Montgomery County’s African Heritage Month Proclamation scheduled to take place on Thursday 3 September, 2009 at the Auditorium of the Montgomery County Executive Office Building in Maryland, USA.

Dr Fomumyoh’s invitation signed by Mumin Barre, the Co- Chair, Montgomery County African Affairs Advisory Group, a copy of which Eden procured, indicates that the speakers will dwell on issues of concern to the greater African community; effective ways to help them improve the quality of their lives and the role of the Africans in the Diaspora to influence policies that affect their lives in the US as well as those in the continent.

The Montgomery County Executive and other elected officials are expected to issue the proclamation, declaring September as the African Heritage Month in Montgomery County. Maryland.
African Heritage Month according to Barre is designed to celebrate culture, heritage, and ancestry, as well as the presence and contributions of African community in Montgomery County. It is also designed to promote diversity, inclusion and connectedness with the government and the community at large.
 

In consultation with the African Affairs Advisory Group and other Advisory Groups for other ethnic communities, the Montgomery County government, the invitation states, is in the process of partnering with government and communities in Africa and other continents on trade, economic development, education and cultural affairs efforts.

To note that another Cameroonian, Ivo Tasong is the incoming Vice-Chair of the Montgomery County African Affairs Advisory Group.
Meantime, Dr Christopher Fomunyoh has confirmed his full participation in the up coming event. “I understand that your very commendable efforts strive to facilitate the integration of Africans in Diaspora into communities in which they live, foster greater interactions between the African Diaspora and their home countries, while seeking to highlight success stories through enhanced relations between Montgomery County and African countries, a confirmation statement from Fomunyoh states.
